I have found so much solace as of late in my knitting and reading so the mere idea of this post brings me peace. I used to save my knitting for the late night hours, leaving it untouched while the kids are rustling about. Then I did some reading and thinking about the importance of surrounding our children with the "work" of living, of showing them how to care thoughtfully for what we have and for them to witness the particular love that goes into making a garment for them. So the bulk of my knitting is still done at night when our home is quiet except for the clicking of my needles (and, err, thirtysomething reruns) in the background and I do pick it up for a row here and there during the rustling about hours.
Right now I am solidly in the middle of the On-the Goveralls for our youngest. I made them in a 2T (he is a big 18 months) but it looks like these are sizing large. He might be in them next winter rather than this one but I am keeping my fingers crossed for a couple wears this winter.
I am still reading The Skylark Sings with Me and Winter World and am planning to start Louise Bates Ames' Your Four Year Old and Your Five Year Old this week as I have a new 5 year old and a soon to be four year old.

the overalls are going to be so cute!
Those overalls are really adorable! I think I'll add them to my queue for my youngest son.
You are making so much progress with the knitting!! So amazing to see : )
The overalls are so sweet & I love the natural colour! I have wanted to read And the skylark sings with me for so long, thank you for the reminder.
Wow...those overalls will be awesome! The "and the skylark sings to me" book looks interesting...I'm going to have to check it out.

adorable overalls, love the yarn! Five year olds are so fun!!
Go-veralls are the best--I can't wait to knit another pair; love the color you chose. Thanks for reminding me of that series of books; I should be seeing if the library has the one for 2-year-olds.
I really miss reading home ed books. I like the charcoally greyness of those overalls, I think they'll look stupendous with a dark blue shirt underneath! (or red, I'm grooving on red right now! lol!)
Those overalls are going to be so cute! I think they are going to have to go on my Ravelry queue as well!
Hi, I came by way of the yarn along. Love the overalls! And the "Your __ year old books" have been helpful over the years.
I think you make such a good point about our children seeing us do meaningful work. And it certaintly inspires them to create and want to learn new skills.
I agree... wild and wonderful indeed... I found it helpful. I, too, have been adding knitting to my with kids time. Last night I did a few rows while watching the littles in the tub. Even a couple of rows can be so relaxing! You keep making me want to add thirtysomething to our queue!
that book looks fun! and i love the yarn, go-veralls and such a great pattern!
I'm not usually a gray person, but I admire someone with a handknit in this color just recently.
I need to find that book. It looks like a good read. And oh how I wish I could knit.
Just read Your Five Year Old last night. For how dated those books are I sure do love them.
