Yarn Along: 8 February

Joining Ginny again today for her Yarn Along...

Knitting a sweater for myself makes me feel like I am crossing some sort of milestone (or milestones) as a knitter.  I am not sure why.  This is certainly not a fancy sweater (although it is a lot more stylish than the zip-up hoodies that I don 95% of the time in our, um, chilly would be a massive understatement house).  This B.O.B. is as close to a wardrobe necessity as I can get right now.  On the rare day like today when I actually comb my hair and put on a little make-up, putting on the zip-up hoodie just cancels out the whole effort, if you know what I mean.  So the B.O.B. will hopefully add a little style to my in-home winter wear.

As for reading, I am still in the midst of Winter World, and I am expecting it to actually take me through the rest of the winter.  I actually can't imagine reading this book in the summer and, if it does not get finished, I may put it away until winter comes again.  Somehow reading about overwintering insects at eight o'clock at night when the sun hasn't yet set and it is as humid inside our house as it is out just does not sound appealing to me.  Maybe this, though.

As a side note, while I am working on my sweater, I am also typically enjoying something on Netflix.  For the past few months, my husband and I have been making our way through every episode of thirtysomething.  We finally finished the series last week, and, I am only slightly kidding when I say that it was difficult to say goodbye to our friends.  So many of their struggles have been our own.  What fun we had together watching it (mixed with the anxiety attacks that some of the episodes brought on ;).

Happy knitting and reading everyone.  I can't wait to read about what you have been up to this week.

Good for you for knitting a sweater for yourself! I know what you mean about it marking a knitting milestone. I just saw a sample of one in my favorite yarn shop that I'd like to try someday. Not sure I'm ready yet. But one of these days =)

My first knitting project was a sweater, but I felt the way you do about a milestone when I made my first pair of socks, 45 years later! You'll really enjoy wearing it, I'm sure.

The sweater looks great and I'm a die hard 30something Fan, I need to get back to the netflix series but I don't usually get to pick with my kids having their own choices thrown in too!

We're watching weeds right now but ever since you started mentioning it, I've been wanting to watch thirtysomething too! Looking forward to seeing that finished BOB!

What a fun stack of reading you have there!

Our house is also very chilly, and I wear some sort of zip-up fleece every single day--totally get that! The B.O.B. will definitely add some style to the mommyhood!

Regarding your comment on my blog--I didn't mean to cause any anxiety with the garden planning, but I ALWAYS start too late, and, my goodness, it's almost the middle of Feb. already. How did that happen? :)

The sweater pattern looks great - it's always so thrilling at the beginning of a new project! :o)

Oh you made me giggle when you said, "on days you get to comb your hair." I remember those days, they weren't that long ago and occasionally still pop up. I was saying today that I had imagined everything to be smooth sailing by now, four and a half years later, but oh how foolish I was!

You know, a friend of mine was having a bit of a crisis last week, and another friend told her, "you really should go watch Thirtysomething. That would explain all of this!" :-) Glad to know it's on Netflix, I should watch it now that I actually am thirtysomething.

I absolutely LOVE that B.O.B!!! I'm going to have to try it myself! Oh, and I just reserved Winter World at the library. I hope you enjoy NJ. Nice to meet you too!

Interested in "And the skylark sings with me"...are you liking it? It has such polarized reviews, either one star or five. What do you think? Pretty sweater color!

Oh that is fantastic that you are knitting something for yourself! I always find that I'm making everyone something and I'm the last person to get a homemade project of my own *grin*. To funny about having a hard time saying goodbye to your 'friends' :) I have yet to find a copy of the older shows. I just may have to get that netflix so I can re watch them! Happy knitting :)
