The infamous Black-capped Chickadees make frequent visits to our feeders, but they stay for such a short while before flitting off to eat the seed that I have found it hard to get a great shot of these really cute little critters. They reside year-round in the mid-west and northern parts of the United States and into Canada.
These tiny birds are cavity nesters. The female selects the site and then she and her mate excavate it before she lays 1 to 13 eggs. Chickadees are frequently accompanied by others birds, such as as the Downy Woodpecker, so if one arrives at your feeder, other birds of interest may pay a visit as well!

Great picture! Isn't it neat how children love birds? My 2 year old loves to see the "Mommy Bird" (pregnant robin) that visits the tree outside our kitchen.
Amazing photo! I've been trying to identify a type of bird that visits us in a big group...wish I had your expertise! - Or at least your skill at capturing the perfect shot (so I could send it to you for help, of course).
We have these little guys year round down here. A family of them seem to use and reuse the bird house in our Japanese magnolia tree. When I go outside to get the mail, some of the chickadees sit in the top branches and chirp angrily at me for interrupting their meal. (:
We love these little guys! Good to know that other birds might come along with them--so far all we've seen are spotted towhees.
chickadees and juncos are my reward in the winter and cardinals are my bonus!!
What a divine photo!!
